are tuesdays unlucky?

this is gonna be short, and maybe i'll go into more detail later, (and maybe i'll just move on...)

i'v had 2 friends lose their jobs in the last week, both on tuesday. both completely unexpected, out of the blue, here's a pink slip... WOW.

first one, liked her job, wasn't too sure about the CEO. small game company in seattle, 140 employees, laid off about 20 of them, seemingly randomly, (Vp of Marketing, well most of marketing, Windows Administrator, VP of information Technology, several jobs in web and database development). if you believe everything you hear and read, most of them were about to vest their stocks, and none of them played boker with the CEO. but the article is here, so...

the second one, is the mother of the kid i manny for. she works for Icos (makers of Cialis) in chemistry (pharmaceutical) research. they just got bought out by Libby, (half owners of Cialis) and pretty much said that they have no interest in Icos except Cialis, therefore, eliminating everything, speculatively by the end of the year. and she actually LOVED her job, everything about it. how often does that happen?

my first thought was "Wow, sucks to be in the workforce right now, at least i can't get laid off." my second though was, "Hmmm, i think i might be losing my mannying job, eh, oh well." life goes on. just gotta roll with it.

speaking of rolling, i had some good games at pool tonight, i won 6 an dlost 2, unfortunately none of the games counted for league play as it was my BYE night, ahhh, i wasn't shooting good until the end, and then still not great. but ya takes what you can get. no crazy drama at the bar tonight, everybody was pretty mellow. i got a "great band" comment on my Ramones t-shirt from someone who didn't strike me as a Ramones fan, and a longhair rocker with bad facial hair (i am qualified to make that judgement as i spent years cultivating many different styles of bad facial hair) tried to make nice with me, probably for the same reasons. but i also somehow got into talking and playing pool with a bunch of thick accented Mexicans, and they were drinking, which made it even harder to tell what they were saying to me.

all in all, i had a good time, but now i'm home, with a couple beers in me, and my pills, i should really lay my head on a pillow, specially after how i been falling asleep in the day, (at least its not in meetings like i used to do in my old corporate life, he he eh).
